When was the last time you let your “fingers do the walking” and flipped through your local Yellow Pages to find local businesses that provided a particular service you were looking for? I’m guessing, probably quite a long time.
Myself, I honestly don’t remember the last time. It’s been that long! Now a days, most of us use our smartphones, computers and tablets to find local businesses and are looking for more than just a directory.
Yellow Pages recently launched the new version of their free YP.ca app, which is available for free download on iPhone and Android. The New YP App is intended to make your shopping experience a whole lot better. With over 20 million business listings at your fingertips and just the click of a button the new YP App is the perfect tool for discovering great deals, new shops, restaurants and even the cheapest local gas in your neighborhood!
Discover your neighborhood
Even though I have lived in on the south side of the city I am in for almost 2 years now, it is still foreign to me in a lot of ways. What I love about the New YP App is that it allows me to discover local businesses that are close to me, that I might not have otherwise known about. Wherever I am in the city, I can see what businesses are around me and also look for a particular product or service. The restaurant searches especially valuable since we love discovering new restaurants that are close to us. I was able to search for nearby restaurants we may not have tried. It was great being able to click to the website and look at the menu… very handy.
The YP App also shows the hours of operation, payment methods, user reviews and more. Since it is a new app there are not all that many reviews but as the New YP App matures I can see this feature as being very important. I really like that everything is there for me to make smart decisions and improve my shopping experience. You can also share your discoveries with your friends on social networks and through text messages and email.
Get directions plus Google Street view
Until I get my learners license, I am stuck taking the bus while my boyfriend is at work or away. This past weekend I headed out downtown in Edmonton. I always seem to get lost when I’m downtown. Thankfully with the YP App, that is no longer going to be an issue. I could easily get directions, access Google Street View pictures and look up any other details I needed, right from my phone with GPS. A convenient and efficient way to get me where I needed to go!
Missed a call? Curious to know who it was? With Reverse lookup you can find out who called and give them a call back! This is a great feature especially when you are pretty sure of the number but don’t want to call back until you are positive.
Discover great deals
Another cool feature is the deals. No need to spend hours looking for them! Deals are offered directly to you according to your searches! At the bottom of your home page you will see an ad for a deal and an arrow to see more deals. It is worth a look when your are heading out to shop… you may just save yourself a few bucks.
Find the cheapest gas prices in your area
Who doesn’t want to save money on gas? One of my favourite features in this day of crazy gas prices is the feature right on the home page that shows an integrated map feature with the cheapest gas prices at various stations near you. Since the app uses the GPS feature of your phone you can do this search wherever you may be in order to find the best deal on gas in any area you are in. I’m really looking forward to using this feature more when I start driving in a couple weeks!
So as you can see, the new YP App is way more than just a classified directory and is a great app for finding businesses near you. The listings are way more detailed than the paper edition. It combines the features of a bunch of apps and puts them all in one place tied together.
