I tend to have a love, hate relationship with makeup removing cleansers. All of the products I have tried have eventually removed my makeup, but not before ripping out my eyelashes, stinging my eyes, drying out my skin or better yet leaving it feeling oily and not clean.
Because of these issues, I’ve continued on my search for a really good makeup removing cleanser. One that would get the job done gently on my entire face. But preferably without all those undesirable effects I’ve mentioned. Carrying on my search, I was pretty excited when I was selected to try out the New Garnier Clean+ Makeup Removing Lotion Cleanser for Sensitive skin.

In one use, skin feels comfortable and conditioned and thoroughly cleansed. After one week, skin feels smoother and softer and looks healthier. I don’t wear a whole lot of makeup as far as foundation goes. I’m lucky to have fairly good skin on my face with the exception of dry patches here and there and the odd pimple, so I don’t need to cover up a whole lot there.
Eye makeup on the other hand, is a different story. I admit, I wear quite a bit of eye makeup. It usually takes me a good 5-10 minutes to completely remove it and wash my entire face. So I was excited to see how well Garnier Clean+ Makeup Removing Lotion Cleanser would compare to other makeup removers I have used in the past..
How to use:
Give the tube a good shake for about 5 seconds first, as I found the product separates as it sits. Without shaking it first, most of the product that was dispensed had an oily lotion like consistency (shown in photo below). You can see the oil separating.
After shaking well, apply lotion to dry skin with your fingers. Gently massage all over your face and around your eyes. You can remove the makeup using a cotton pad or rinse with water. This product can be used twice a day, once in the morning and once at night.
Garnier Clean+ Makeup Removing Lotion is easy to use and lives up to it’s promise in not irritating sensitive skin. However after using it for a week, I feel that this product is more effective in removing eye makeup, as it did leave as oily residue on my skin after using it on my entire face. Even after rinsing.
I have used other lotion cleansers before that didn’t leave my skin feeling oily after rinsing, so I found it interesting that this one did. Surprisingly, I didn’t receive any acne or blemishes from the oily texture. While my skin did feel soft, it didn’t feel “moisturized”, it felt oily. I ended up having to cleanse my skin with another cleanser afterwards. I also still had to apply a moisturizer. Because of this, I wouldn’t recommend Garnier Clean+ Lotion Cleanser as an “all over face” cleanser. But I definitely recommend this lotion cleanser as as a gentle eye makeup remover that gets the job done.
It did a wonderful job at gently breaking down my tough eye makeup and removed it all within a few short minutes. I was pretty impressed with that. I didn’t have to scrub my eyeballs for 5 minutes! LOL! Also no eyelashes were ripped out in the process and it didn’t sting my eyes like it did for a few others who reviewed this lotion cleanser. Perhaps my eyes aren’t as sensitive as theirs.
One thing I can’t say for sure is whether or not it lives up to it’s claim of removing waterproof mascara as I haven’t used that formula for quite a while now. But it works great as a first step in any cleansing routine. All in all at about $9 CAD, the price point is definitely worth considering if you’re looking for a good, gentle eye makeup remover.
