If you are a regular reader of my blog, then you will know that I love to travel, whenever I can. There’s just something about visiting new places, experiencing new things and meeting new people that makes taking trips so enjoyable.
One place that I have always dreamt of visiting is Vienna, in Austria. I can’t quite put my finger on why, but it probably has something to do with the delicious cuisine offered and the lively bar scene.
In preparation for the day that I can finally hop on a plane and head to Vienna, I have put together this handy guide to everything you need to know about visiting this cultural city.
Why should you visit Vienna?
Aside from the delicious cuisine and lively bar scene, there are plenty of other reasons why you should take a trip to Austria’s capital city, Vienna.
If you are a fan of architecture or history, Vienna is somewhere you just have to visit. Many people believe that Vienna is one of the most historically important cities in Europe. While others love Vienna’s intriguing architecture, one of the most popular architectural pieces in the city is the Jugendstil.
Art Nouveau or Jugendstil is an international philosophy and style of art, architecture and applied art – especially the decorative arts – that was most popular during 1890–1910.
What is there to do in Vienna?
There are so many fantastic things you can do on a visit to Vienna. From touring the museums and checking out the most ancient historical sites to relaxing in one of Vienna’s famous coffee shops or bars.
Like any capital city, Vienna is full of restaurants, bars, shopping centers, museums, and art galleries, and is a fantastic place to spend a few days exploring.
Where are the best places to eat in the city?
One of the main reasons I want to visit Vienna is because of the fantastic food offered there. Vienna’s restaurants are famous for catering to every taste, offering too many dishes to count.
As well as various savory dishes, there are also many sweet delicacies on offer in Vienna. Two of the most famous are Apfelstrudel (Apple Strudel) and Topfenstrudel – these are apparently delicious.
Rumor has it that the best way to get a real taste of Vienna’s finest food is to ask a local to order for you. I’d be up for the challenge.
What about accommodations in Vienna?
For many travelers, myself included, choosing accommodations for your stay is one of the most important things.
Believe it or not, if you don’t get the accommodations right, it can affect how much you enjoy your trip. That’s why it is so important, wherever you are going, that you pick your hotel, hostel or bed and breakfast accommodations wisely.
Start off by thinking about what kind of trip you want, and then go from there. If you want to enjoy a luxury stay, then having a look at Venere hotels is a good idea. If you like the idea of meeting other travelers, then staying in a hostel might be best for you.
Where you stay is up to you, it’s just important to pick your accommodations carefully.
What’s the best way to get around Vienna?
While there are buses and taxi’s you can take to get around the city easily if you want to take in all the best sights, walking is the best way to get about.
