If you haven’t heard of fashion month, now is the perfect time to educate yourself. This biannual, month-long event is to fashion fanatics what the playoffs (any playoffs really) are to sports fans, and it’s happening right now.
Twice a year, the biggest names in the industry send their lines down the runway during a celebration of all things fashion. The latest set of shows are traveling from New York City, to London, to Milan, and finally Paris, spending one week at each location. Since New York City wrapped up, and London’s shows are underway, we’ve already gotten a good idea on the newest trends to expect from the styles that have graced the stage.
One in particular is sure to satisfy your cozy side, especially with the cool weather approaching. It’s called “athleisure,” a combination of athletic and casual wear. As explained in this article, athleisure is where “fashion meets fitness.”
The idea is to mix athletic gear and casual clothing to create outfits that are flattering, and can also be worn during everyday outings. For example, wearers can pair jogger pants with a fitted and feminine graphic top, and complete the look with a useful, yet attractive headband, making the look fashionable and functional. With the popularity of this new trend, you don’t have to feel guilty going out in your yoga pants. Match them with a new athleisure top and you’ll look like you stepped of the runways of NYC!
Of course, the shows aren’t limited to casual wear. There’s also a good amount of accessories, bathing suits, and even pajamas in addition to plenty of new trends featuring guilty pleasure lingerie.
If you want to take advantage of this year’s hot undergarments, you can’t go wrong with grey and lace. Sexy shades of grey tones covered everything from bras and underwear to silky robes and camis. And lace was used as much more than a small aesthetic detail. Instead, many designs utilized it as a main fabric. As you can see from the Mesh Lace Bralet and Scalloped Lace Bralet featured here, this isn’t your grandma’s lace. Save that stuff for doilies, and grab one of the new sexy and subtle lace pieces for yourself.
If you want to wear something other than your undies or athleisure, not to worry, the shows also covered the resurgence of an old trend—flares. Flare pants are back in full force this season. Denim flares, as well as styles in linen and leather, were extremely popular. Kate Upton even sported a pair as she posed for pictures before attending the show. In fact, the trend wasn’t limited to pants, as tops with flare sleeves were a hot commodity.
Many of this year’s designs, including flares, were reminiscent of and inspired by the popular styles of the ’70s. In addition to bell bottoms, designers incorporated new, bohemian styles using suede and fringe. Although suede jackets can be pricey, you easily can pull off the ’70s look yourself with a suede accessory or two.
Fashion month helps style fiends everywhere stay ahead of the curve, and plan their wardrobe from the upcoming season. If you haven’t already, check out the shows while you still can and grab the latest styles before they’re gone!
